Pancreatic Function
Pancreatic function tests are considered by some to be the most accurate means of diagnosing chronic pancreatitis. They are especially valuable when radiological images of the abdomen are normal or inconclusive and when it is necessary to demonstrate exocrine insufficiency for the purpose of determining treatment options.

The primary action of SecreFloTM is to increase the volume and bicarbonate content of digestive juices that are secreted by the pancreas as part of the normal process of digestion. It is for this reason that when SecreFloTM is administered intravenously as a stimulant in the pancreatic function test, it aids in the diagnosis of exocrine pancreas dysfunction. It is by measuring the volume and bicarbonate concentration of the collected fluids that the physician can determine the function level of the pancreas.

In human clinical trials with SecreFloTM, pancreatic exocrine insufficiency typically associated with chronic pancreatitis was indicated in patients who had pancreatic fluid bicarbonate concentrations that were less than 80 mEq/L in any sample taken.

Quick Reference Dosing:
To stimulate pancreatic secretions, including bicarbonate, to aid in the diagnosis of exocrine pancreas dysfunction: 0.2mcg/kg body weight of SecreFloTM by intravenous injection over 1 minute.
